The Undergraduate College Student Exhibition is right around the corner and we want to make sure that everyone knows all about it! Each year, KCAC invites undergraduate students from both Kansas and Missouri to participate in this juried exhibition. We are happy to announce that this year's juror is Sonie Joi Ruffin - Visiting Curator of the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City, Missouri. The student exhibition encourages undergraduate students to participate in a gallery show in Kansas City and compete for the Leigh Rosenberg Earnest Memorial Fund Scholarship which is awarded to up to four of the most outstanding participants as judged by our juror. Don't forget the deadlines for the Student Show are fast approaching. The Leedy-Voulkos Art Center 2012 Baltimore Avenue Kansas City, MO 64108 January 3 –March 1, 2014 Sponsored by P&M ARTWORKS Submission Deadline: December 2, 2013 Artist Notification: December 9, 2013 P&M Artworks seeks entries within the greater metropolitan Kansas City and Lawrence, KS areas for its third annual juried exhibition. Works in a range of visual art media are welcome, including painting, works on paper, photography, sculpture, glass, jewelry/metal work, furniture, textiles and digital/video responding to the theme, “Divine.” A variety of interpretations centered on individual meanings and reflections on the idea of “Divine” will be selected for the exhibition. Guest jurors, MICHAEL KRUEGER, acclaimed artist and tenured Associate Professor of Printmaking, Digital Art and Drawing at The University of Kansas, and BLAIR SCHULMAN, Kansas City art writer and critic, alongside art historian Patricia B. Glenn and Michael J. Pronko, MD of P&M Artworks, will select three artists from the show for individual cash awards ($600/1st, $400/2nd, $200/3rd), exposure on the P&M Artworks website and special press coverage. ELIGIBILITY -Must be 18 or older to enter. -Must be an artist residing in greater Kansas City and Lawrence, KS. Submission Guidelines -Artists may enter up to three submissions/project proposals for a $15 fee. Checks must be payable to P&M Artworks. -Work for the exhibition will be selected primarily based on the visual elements of the piece itself, however the written proposal explaining the piece’s relation to the theme will be taken into consideration. -Each submission can be represented by up to two professional quality j-peg images, 300 dpi, 4 x 6 inches on a CD (one overall view and one optional detail view). File names must include artist’s last name and the work’s title (i.e. last name-title.jpg). -CDs should include a file (label as ‘commentary’) containing a 250-word project proposal explaining how submissions relate to the theme of Divine, an image list, and a resume (label as ‘resume’) including all artist contact information and can include an artist statement if desired. -The image list file (label as ‘image list’) must include information: title, medium, dimensions (H x W x D, in inches) and date of work/s. Please number images in accordance with image list. Images that are improperly labeled or lack any of the above information will not be considered. -Submission should represent current work or work completed within the past two years. -Work may not exceed a dimension of 60 by 40 inches, or a weight of 75 pounds. -All works must be for sale. SALES Artists must list a price for each piece (can be indicated on your Image list). All sales will be split with P&M Artworks 50/50, so please price work accordingly. The juror for our second annual juried exhibition is Tina Kukielski, the co-curator of the 2013 Carnegie International at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh. $500 first place award in addition to other cash awards. About the Competition The Print Center’s Annual International Competition is one of the most prestigious and oldest competitions in the United States. Julia Dolan is The Minor White Curator of Photography at the Portland Art Museum, Portland, OR, where she oversees the research, documentation and exhibition of the permanent collection of more than 7,000 photographs. She has worked with the photography collections at institutions including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, PA; Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, MA; Fogg Art Museum; Cambridge, MA; and the Palmer Museum of Art, University Park, PA. She has curated and co-curated numerous photography exhibitions including Transcending the Literal: Photographs by Ansel Adams from the Collection(2008)and Spectacle (2009)at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, as well as Likeness: Portraiture from the Photography Collection (2011), 70 Years/70 Photographs (2012), andSurface: Landscape Photography (2013)at the Portland Art Museum. Dolan is currently working on the exhibition The Question of Hope: Robert Adams in Western Oregon. Bruce Guenther is the Chief Curator and the Robert and Mercedes Eichholz Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Portland Art Museum, Portland, OR. He has served also served as curator the Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, CA; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL; and Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, WA. Recent exhibitions curated by Guenther have included the work of Mike Kelley, Bruce Nauman, Gerhard Richter and Cindy Sherman. He has written and lectured extensively on art of the last one hundred years and served as a juror for regional and national exhibitions and as a panelist for the GSA Art in Architecture Program. Emerging Artists Competition and Exhibition JANUARY 27 – FEBRUARY 22, 2014 Call for Entries ApplicationDownloadable & printable application The Janet Turner Print Museum seeks artists who push the boundaries of traditional printmaking in unique and innovative ways including using combinations of media. Creative works that reference and expand printmaking’s traditions are encouraged. Print images, objects and related print works that can encompass 2D, 3D, book arts, printed ephemera, time-based work, and installations are eligible. Critical elements include a well-developed aesthetic including contemporary issues and their expression in content. ELIGIBLE ARTISTS Any artist working in and expanding printmaking as an art form is eligible to submit work. All submissions must have been created within the last two years.
